While studying as a young Brahmachari, Sri Adi Shankaracharya went to a poor household for alms (Bhiksha). The impoverished Brahmin lady had nothing in her home except a single dry gooseberry (Amla fruit). Moved to tears that a guest would leave empty-handed, she offered her only remaining possession with deep humility. Overwhelmed by her selflessness, Shankaracharya spontaneously composed the 21 verses of Kanakadhara Stotram (కనకధారా స్తోత్రం), causing the Goddess of Fortune to shower rain of golden amlas into the poor woman’s courtyard.

How to Chant Kanakadhara Stotram for Abundance

Reciting this hymn on Fridays (శుక్రవారం), Pournami (Full Moon), or during Dhanurmasam and Diwali with a ghee lamp in front of Goddess Lakshmi removes financial distress and bestows righteous wealth (Dharma Artha).
